About MKCA

Relative Caregivers Are...

Kinship care, or relative care, is defined as the caregiving for dependant children by a relative or a close family friend. There are two types of kinship care arrangements: informal, which is an agreement among family members, and formal, which is facilitated in the child welfare system.

Are you a grandparent, aunt, uncle or close family friend who has stepped in — and stepped up — when a child experiences trouble at home?

Whether you are just beginning to explore the possibility or whether you've already brought a child into your home, MKCA can help.

We can offer you:

  • Information and referral to assist you
  • Support and discussion groups to connect you
  • Educational workshops to inform you

You may have questions such as:

  • What legal options are possible?
  • What financial benefits are available?
  • What supports are available to children for their emotional and social needs?
  • How do I connect with other relative caregivers?
