Who We Help

Who We HelpMinnesota Kinship Caregivers Association (MKCA) is a non-profit organization serving people caring for, or considering caring for, a relative's child through information, support and educational workshops.

Sam's Story

Sam's aunt contacted MKCA when his adoptive grandparent passed away. After this difficult turn of events, she wanted to welcome Sam into her home. Sam's aunt wanted to assist Sam by exploring her legal options to obtain guardianship. She was relieved to learn that his medical care and psychological care could be continued, and his eligibility for Medical Assistance would help him access needed support. Sam's life had been dramatically improved when his grandmother adopted him from foster care, and now, in turn, his aunt has the information and resources she needs to pursue guardianship and a new family home for him.

Relative caregivers bring the strength of family to a new level of commitment! Recognizing the importance of this commitment, we assist hundreds of kinship families like Sam's each year in Minnesota.
